Summer Walks 2022

Essex Federation is pleased to announce the resumption of its very popular programme of guided walks. Please note that all places MUST be prebooked as there are limited places. None of the walks are longer than 1 ½ -2hours. It is recommended that you wear suitable footwear. To book a place please complete the booking form below.

Tuesday 10th May 10.30am

Converted buildings of Colchester: a cinema that was a post office, a pub that was theatre and a theatre was a chapel + many more. Meet at the War Memorial in the High Street. Cost £7

Wednesday 25th May 10.30am

Mersea Island: visit the Roman Burial Mound, the Museum and walk along the coastal road to the very west of the island. Meet at the Roman Burrow (on East Mersea Rd). Cost £7

Wednesday 15th June 10.30am

Historic Harwich: A walk around this historic town. Visit Christopher Jones’ house, the ancient treadmill (1667), the Electric Cinema (1911). There are over 200 listed buildings in a small area. Meet at the Ha’penny Pier on Harwich Quay directly opp the Pier Hotel. Cost £7

Tuesday 21st June 10.30am

Thaxted: “There is no town in North Essex (and very few in England) to equal in beauty, compactness and juxtaposition of medieval and Georgian architecture” (John Betjeman). Meet at the Guildhall. Cost £7

Tuesday 19th July 10.30am

Clare (Suffolk): A wool town in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. There are merchant houses, a wool church, Clare Priory and the beautiful countryside to explore. Meet at the Clare Country Park. Cost £7

It is hoped to offer one further walk in September. Details to be advised in due course
