Sir Ernest Shackleton is a national icon and legendary explorer who ventured on four epic voyages of discovery to the Antarctic a century ago including the famous Endurance expedition. We shall look at the compelling story of a complex and charismatic man who touched greatness on the ice but struggled to come to terms with home life. Our speaker, Michael Smith, is the author of the critically acclaimed biography Shackleton- By Endurance we Conquer.

3.Late Summer Walk for 2022

Bury St Edmunds

This tour gives an introduction to the history & development of the town with allusion to important figures from the past. It covers Angel Hill, the Abbey Gardens, the ruins of the Benedictine Abbey, the Cathedral, parts of the churchyard with associated buildings. Meet at the War Memorial on Angel Hill at 10.30am.
